Volhard titration is a method to measure the amount of chloride ions in a solution that has been adopted to measuring the concentration of silver in an unknown solution. For a refiner the interesting part of Volhard titration is the second one where using ferric ammonium sulfate as an indicator and ammonium thiocyanate as a reagent. By measuring the amount of ammonium thiocyanate used the concentration of silver could be calculated.
